Do you know that you can read an e-book on your mobile phone, computer or tablet?

Download the Kindle app by searching (on your computer/tablet/mobile phone) for "Kindle App". Register yourself on Amazon and/or Goodreads, and you can download dozens of books at much cheaper prices than a printed book. In effect, you do not pay for the paper and printing of the book. Your author gets his/her royalties from Amazon. Treat yourself to plenty of reading material for the holidays. A paper package will never be part of your luggage again!

 

Do you know what Kindle Unlimited is?

Membership with Amazon's Kindle Unlimited gives you the chance to borrow many books with no expiration date. You pay a membership fee (now about US$12) per month and can then download and read up to 20 books at a time. Hundreds of books are at your disposal. Authors make their books available as e-books on KU and still get their royalties for every page you read.

You must open an Amazon account with a valid payment method (This you will have if you already bought books or other items from Amazon).

Search for Kindle Unlimited on Amazon's SEARCH BAR and sign up as a member.

Your first month is free.

You will never again have a shortage of reading material with Kindle Unlmited!

 

How do I know what my Kindle email address is?

Hover your mouse over your account (Account and Lists) at the top right of the Amazon website.

Click Content & Devices on the drop-down menu

Click Devices on the top row

Click on the Kindle image

Click on a Kindle when the list appears (if the option is there?)

The first field is an email field, where you will find your Kindle email.

How to receive an e-book from an author on your Kindle application:

Make sure the supplier's (sender's) email is an approved email address:

Hover your mouse over your account (Account and Lists) at the top right of the Amazon website.

Click Content & Devices on the drop-down menu

Select Preferences (next to Devices)

Click on Personal Document Settings

Scroll down to Approved Personal Document E-mail List

If your author/supplier's email is not there, click Add a new approved email address at the very bottom.

For example, key in @gmail.com or @elsabewelman.co.za or @mweb.co.za and select Add

 

Do you know what you can do for your author (besides buying a book)?

Your book review or feedback carries more weight than you may ever realize. A review and rating is the counterpart of a "by word of mouth" marketing, which is statistically proven to be the best marketing strategy in the book world.

A review (in just a sentence or two) on Amazon or Goodreads works magic with the algorithms and gives your author and his/her book a huge boost in getting noticed, no matter how you acquired the book (paperback or e-book).  A review (or simply just your impression of the book) on social media, in which you "tag" your author, is just as important.

Be good to your writers. Help your writers. Walk the extra mile (kilometre), please. Take a few minutes, register on Goodreads and choose the number of stars. The review with it is a huge bonus!

 

Did you know that Amazon and Goodreads are family (like big brother and little sister)?

Goodreads is more user-friendly than Amazon when it comes to star rating and reviews. However, all sales are done by big brother Amazon, but you can start the transaction from Goodreads.

On Goodreads you can…

- Search for your favourite author and buy his/her e-books. You can simply look at what other readers say about the book.

- Please follow me (and your other writers).

- All three of the following options cause powerful shifts in the algorithms regarding the book, and in favour of the author. With a book you can make a choice: WANT TO READ or CURRENTLY READING or READ. Even if you haven't bought the book, and you choose WANT TO READ, the algorithm gears start turning and the book (and your author) gets noticed. How do you register on Goodreads?

Choose one of the following: Continue with facebook/amazon/apple/email sign up

Ignore # books (SKIP)

Choose genres

Rate books: ignore, and click on FINISH RATING on the right

Above is screen: SEARCH BOOKS. Click there and key in book or author's name

To rate/review book: select the book. Below is a green box WANT TO READ and an arrow (on a mobile phone 3 books against each other)

Click on arrow (or booklets), select READ

Here you can choose a star rating, and leave a review

Below that, click POST

At SEARCH BOOKS you can choose an author, and thus purchase new books, or choose your author’s books with WANT TO READ.

The choices of WANT TO READ and CURRENTLY READING are just as powerful as READ. Even if you haven't bought the book, and you choose WANT TO READ, it creates movement in the algorithms in favour of your author.
